As stated on the ENGL 301 blogs site, I have completed my formal report proposal and uploaded it onto my team’s blog page on the ENGL 301 99C blogs site. Please see below for a link for my formal report proposal.

 

The purpose of this proposal is to identify any issues with the quality of education within the organic chemistry department at UBC. If any concerns are identified, potential solutions and suggestions will be addressed to Dr. Jaclyn Stewart in an attempt to improve the education system within organic chemistry. The goal of the proposal is to improve the quality of education in organic chemistry for future students, based on student experiences and feedback.

 

Summary of Formal Report Proposal:

  • Introduction and background: Assessing the quality of organic chemistry education at UBC to enhance the students’ learning experience
  • Statement of the problem: Teaching models and assessment methods used by professors may not be the most effective
  • Proposed solutions: Introduce active learning during lectures or tutorial classes and utilize an assignment-based evaluation scheme
  • Research Methodology: Primary sources include surveys and interviews which are supported by research articles on educational psychology
  • My qualifications: Currently conducting chemistry education research with Dr. Stewart’s FEEL Team
  • Concluding thoughts and statements: Identifying areas of concern will improve the quality of organic chemistry education students are receiving
