Subject: Best LinkedIn Practices
The purpose of this memo is to review best practices for using LinkedIn as a professional networking site. Linked In was established in 2002 as a medium for professionals to connect virtually. It is a social media site where professionals can stay connected, discover job openings, and advertise themselves.
- Use a current, professional profile picture that showcases someone whom people would want to work with (Deehan,2022).
- Keep your profile updated even if you are not currently seeking a job. It enhances your marketing efforts by making your most recent professional experience available for recruiters and other professionals. It can generate more opportunities both for work and to connect with people who can contribute to your professional development (Engine, 2022).
- Connect with the right people, professionals, and companies based on your professional interest(Deehan,2022).
- Join and use linked in groups by adding contacts related to your profile, companies, and opinion leaders. Actively participate in discussion groups of your interest (Engine, 2022). Pay attention to group descriptions and rules.
- Add your publications such as research papers, and articles to the publication section on your linkedIn profile (Deehan, 2022). It can make you stand out (Deehan, 2022).
- Acquire new skills by taking advantage of courses, seminars, and other professional courses through LinkedIn (Engine, 2022). It showcases your passion for learning.
- Spotlight the service you offer especially if you are a small business owner. It can boost your visibility in search results (Deehan, 2022).
- Share content that is congruent with what your profile says. It says a lot about you as a professional and your interests (Engine, 2022)
- Review and alter your target audience regularly. Grow your network by following up meetings, connection requests, and conversations on LinkedIn (Deehan, 2022).
- Have a linkedIn summary and ensure it tells a story, talk about how your skills can make a positive difference for your future employers or business partners. It can be more than just listing your skills and experience (Deehan, 2022).
A LinkedIn profile created with these tips in mind can be an effective tool for professional networking. Please be sure to contact me at bhamra.trisha@gmail.com if you are interested in discussing the above points further or have any questions or concerns.
