Subject: 301 Progress Report: Feasibility Analysis of improving environmental practices at Flagship Dental to reduce its carbon footprint
Purpose and Significance of Report
The purpose of this report is to reduce the carbon footprint of Flagship Dental by implementing “green” alternatives of regularly used dental materials such as PPE, sterilization materials, plastic barriers and one time use dental products.
The major implication of this problem is adding to the existing global warming from poor environmental practices, especially when environmental alternatives exist. We all must be accountable at home and work in trying to minimize our carbon footprint.

Report Objectives
The objectives of this report are:
- To determine the extent to which the current dental materials are adding to the global carbon footprint and benefits of implementing “green” alternatives
- To confirm the feasibility of switching from current dental material to “green” alternatives
- To provide guidance on staff opinions on “green” dental alternatives
- To provide recommendations on how to further reduce the carbon footprint
Methods
Primary data collection via an online survey targeted to the staff of Flagship Dental and other dental professionals in the lower mainland via Facebook group “BC Dental Professionals”. Secondary sources will include publications on the feasibility and acceptance of green alternatives vs. traditional dental office equipment while staying within the best practices standards.

Research Plan
To analyze feasibility and provide effective recommendations, I plan to:
- Critically analyze current dental materials and their impact on the carbon footprint of Flagship Dental.
- Critically analyze the current environmentally friendly practices within Flagship Dental
- Identify the impact of “green” alternatives on the current carbon footprint of Flagship Dental
- Find distributors of the “green” alternatives
- Assess the costs associated with going “green”
- Identify cost effective “green” alternatives to the dental materials such as PPE, sterilization materials, plastic barriers and one time use dental products
- Analyze primary data from surveys (staff of Flagship Dental and other dental professionals in the lower mainland from the Facebook group “BC Dental Professionals)
- Produce visuals based on survey data
- Evaluate the implementation strategy for the above “green” alternatives
