Subject: 301 Progress Report: Enhancing COVID Protection for On-campus Dining at UBC

Intended Audience

UBC Community Planning and Programming. Senior Policy Planner, Celene Fung; Community Programs and Outreach Manager,  Gabriella Scali, and Coordinator, Debbie Yeh.

Purpose of Report

The purpose of this report is to provide recommendations for enhancing COVID protection for on-campus dining in UBC Vancouver.

Significance of Report

This report will bring UBC Community staffs’ attention to risks are associated with dining on campus and take action. Therefore, it will be safer and more convenient for students to eat on campus during the pandemic, as students are less likely to be infected on-campus. It benefits students’ physical and mental health and positively affects UBC’s reputation.

Report Objectives

The objectives of this report are:

  • To determine the extent of student satisfaction with on-campus dining
  • To confirm the feasibility of having acrylic transparent anti-droplet isolation boards in confined dining areas
  • To provide practical recommendations on enhancing student safety for on-campus dining

Methods:

Primary data collection via online survey targeted to UBC students. Attached is the link to the survey questions being used to gather data for this report:

Secondary sources will include researching remaining university responses to on-campus dining risks, acrylic transparent anti-droplet isolation boards, and cost analysis.

Research Plan

  • Identify the proportion of students that care COVID protection for on-campus dining through surveys
  • Identify the proportion of students who agree to have acrylic transparent anti-droplet isolation boards through surveys
  • Observe restaurants having acrylic transparent anti-droplet isolation boards as examples
  • Research other universities’ actions against COVID for on-campus dining
  • Coordinate with UBC Community Planning and Programming’s staff to determine the amount of confined space and cost
  • Data Analysis on surveys
  • Produce visuals based on survey data
