Subject: 301 Progress Report : Proposal for the Implementation of Subsidized Hot Beverage Vendors on Campus
Purpose and Significance of Report
The purpose of this report is to provide recommendations for providing quality hot drinks that come from local and ethical ingredients for an affordable price to UBC students on campus.
Intended Audience
UBC Boards of Governors
Report Objectives
The objectives of this report are:
- To determine the current student demand of hot drinks on campus
- To discuss current subsidized food vendors and how they operate
- To confirm feasibility of implementing subsidized hot beverage vendors on campus in alignment with the subsidized food vendors
Methods:
Primary data collection via an online survey targeted to consumers. Attached is the link to the survey questions being used to gather data for this report:

Secondary sources will include researching coffee consumption of students at other universities and a brief interview with the director of Food Services at UBC.

Research Plan
In order to analyze feasibility and provide effective recommendations, I plan to:
- Conduct an interview with Colin Moore, the director of Food Services at UBC, to investigate current plans and implementation around subsidized food vendors
- Analyze published research articles pertaining to coffee consumption of students at other universities
- Observe consumer buying habits at drink vendors on campus
- Identify the most important factors considered by consumers at UBC
- Data analysis on surveys
- Produce visuals based on survey data

Week of Feb 28, 2022 : zoom call with Colin Moore + promote online survey
Week of March 7, 2022: observe the relative traffic of students at various hot beverage vendors
Week of March 14, 2022: analyze research articles from other universities
