Subject: 10 Best LinkedIn Practices
The purpose of this memo is to provide my writing team with a summary of my research concerning best practices for professional networking on LinkedIn.
- Use a clear professional headshot for your profile picture and steer away from noisy backgrounds. It is important that the picture is recent and depicts a typical look in your work. Your profile picture is the first impression to job recruiters, so it is worthwhile to have a picture that stands out (Deehan).
- Expand your network, the quickest way to get job recruiters your way is to grow your connections. Also, LinkedIn allows you to message and arrange meetings with your connection requests which can help learn more about people in your profession (Deehan).
- Make sure the skills listed on your profile are up to date. Skills can change over time as we add and gather more knowledge. Keeping concise and relevant skills help with endorsement (Deehan).
- Use the skills assessment feature to display a verified skills badge on your profile. Job seekers with a verified badge are thirty percent more likely to get hired as it proves they have the skills required for the role (Deehan).
- Try to get your connections who feel that you are capable of your skills to give you endorsements. Endorsements add an extra layer of credibility to your profile (Deehan).
- Keep active by sharing posts and reposting content that relates to your values. By sharing relevant content with your network, you are keeping yourself active and accessible (Deehan).
- Connect with influencers and experts in your profession. When connecting with experts in your field, your network suggestions will get curated towards others also in your profession. Furthermore, it puts you a step closer to job recruiters searching for people in your profession (Deehan).
- Focus on having a summary that gives a detailed snippet about yourself. Your summary is one of the most critical elements of your profile as it gives the viewer a chance to know a little more about you (Deehan).
- Have a clear headline that includes your job title, job description, and a quick fact. A headline does not only have to be your job title. You can be more detailed by adding more about your role in your work and what you are looking for in your profession (Deehan).
- Upload a background photo to your profile to share a little about your personality. The background photo adds another visual element to your profile and can grab the attention of the viewer (Deehan).
The techniques mentioned above will strengthen your LinkedIn profile. If you have any questions regarding the above-mentioned, please feel free to contact me.
