Subject: ENGL 301 Progress Report: Improve affectability of Sorting Stations on UBC Campus

Purpose and Significance of Report

The purpose of this report is to provide recommendations for enhancing the proper use of sorting stations at UBC by introducing sorting station employees to increase campus wide sustainability.

Intended Audience

UBC Sustainability Leadership Team: Senior Director Linda Nowlan and Academic Director Tara Ivanochko

Report Objectives

The objectives of this report are:

  • To determine the current usage and satisfaction for sorting stations at UBC
  • To provide examples of successful uses of sorting station employees and feasibility
  • To provide the benefits of introducing sorting station employees and how it will help increase sustainability at UBC

Methods:

Primary data collection via an online survey targeted to people who have access to the sorting stations. Attached is the link to the survey questions being used to gather data for this report:

Secondary sources will include researching other sources of sorting stations that use sorting employees (the pros and cons) and benefits of sorting stations.

Research Plan

In order to analyze feasibility and determine the benefits, I plan to:

  • Observe the current sorting stations on UBC campus
  • Survey the people at UBC
  • Determine the importance of sustainability at UBC through surveying and literature
  • Determine the interest of the job (sorting station employee)
  • Research other sorting stations that use employees and determine the pros and cons
  • Research the impact proper sorting stations have on sustainability through research articles
  • Data Analysis on surveys
  • Create a visual model for the data gathered from surveys

Writing Schedule

Attached is my writing schedule:

  • March 4 – Revise survey
  • March 9 – Send survey out to people who have access to the sorting stations (ie students, professors and staff)
  • March 12 – Summarizing results of the survey
  • March 16 – Draft of my formal report submission
  • March 26 – Completed formal report submission
