Hi Evan,

Below are some tips and suggestions on how to ask your professor to enroll you into the full English course:

  • Write in complete sentences, avoid overstuffing or under-stuffing sentences
  • Start the subject line of an email with the course title and section you are wanting to enroll in, and a student number to reference what student the professor should be inquiring about
  • Look from the reader’s point of view, so in this case, the professors point of view and decide if you would be convinced with what you wrote
  • Begin with a proper introduction and desire to what and why to be a part of the English course and address the person using the proper title (Dr, Prof, etc), in this case address the reader as “Professor”
  • Show how being in the course can benefit the professor
  • Emphasize the benefits to the professor of being enrolled in the course
  • Focus on the problem itself (not being enrolled in the course)
  • Keep personal or unrelated stuff away from the email, do not incorporate after-thoughts or opinions on stuff unrelated to the topic
  • Express appreciation towards the professor for considering this proposition, and for the course the professor is teaching
  • Include full contact information at the bottom of the email, including student ID number
  • If a response is needed by a certain time, ask kindly for a best request for a response time giving a justified reasoning.

By following these suggestions, the professor should be more likely to consider your proposition of enrolling in the class. If you have any questions or would like any clarification on any of the following tips above, feel free to contact me at ali.hasan3232@gmail.com.

Best,

Ali Hasan
