Subject: Tips on Writing an Email to Professors
This is the requested memo on emailing professors to request for a placement in their class. These suggestions can be helpful when writing an appropriate email to professors.
- Adding a subject line and state the course number and the request that is needed from the professor.
- Addressing the professor with an appropriate greeting, such as “Dear Mr. X”.
- Avoiding pronouns such as “you”, as it often results in resulting the reader.
- Eliminating abbreviations such as “asap” and “ttfn” to avoid confusion.
- Keeping the tone of the email professional.
- Excluding personal matters and focus on the request.
- Avoiding the assumption that the problem will be addressed by the reader.
- Requesting in a polite and respectful manner.
Above practices can be helpful when conducting an email to professors. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me at eric@gmail.com.
Cheers,
Eric Zhang
