One last self-edit

Good Monday Morning 301;

I am excited to begin reading the final drafts of your Formal Reports. Before I begin this delightful task, I would like you all to do one last review of your reports with a focus on finding and correcting the following list of most common errors. You are free to self-edit your posting with the expectation that I will not begin evaluating for grades until Friday. This will give me a few days to read through all the reports before beginning the process of assigning numbers to papers. And, will give you time for one last self-edit that includes:

  • Double checking that all documents are included in a logical order (page 511 in our textbook):
    • letter of transmission
    • title page
    • table of context
    • list of tables and figures
    • abstract
    • text of the report: introduction/body/conclusion)
    • glossary (if needed)
    • appendices: include surveys and links to surveys
    • works Cited (MLA style)

  • Double checking that the font size and pagination are correct according to our textbook – refer to the example pages 516 – 526).

  • Reviewing the 5 central writing tips on the Instructor’s Blog
    • Editing-out pronouns
    • Editing out unnecessary words
    • Avoiding the negative
    • Avoiding imperative verbs
    • Writing with YOU attitude – always put your reader’s needs first 🙂
