The following list gives ten best practices when using LinkedIn to network professionally:
- Considering your audience is important when developing your profile.
- Using a professional, yet friendly tone is essential when writing your summary, creating posts, and interacting with other professionals.
- Adding a professional picture will introduce yourself and add credibility to your LinkedIn profile.
- Including a background image is another feature to draw people into your profile. Consider using an image that will interest your target audience.
- Making meaningful connections is an important step to network and market yourself.
- Including work and education experience shows readers your professional history. Using action words to highlight your accomplishments will enhance your profile.
- Writing a summary section is important to introduce yourself, your mission, and relevant interests to individuals viewing your profile.
- Updating your headline will intrigue your readers and inform them of your current professional status.
- Showcasing your relevant skills will make you stand out to members viewing your profile.
- Shortening your profile’s URL to include your first and last name is important. This URL can be used on resumes, personal websites, cover letters, etc.
