Subject: Ten Best Practices For Using LinkedIn As A Professional Networking Site

LinkedIn is a social media platform for professionals. It provides members the opportunity to build their own brand, connect with other professionals, and bring new career opportunities.

The following list gives ten best practices when using LinkedIn to network professionally:

  1. Considering your audience is important when developing your profile.
  2. Using a professional, yet friendly tone is essential when writing your summary, creating posts, and interacting with other professionals.
  3. Adding a professional picture will introduce yourself and add credibility to your LinkedIn profile.
  4. Including a background image is another feature to draw people into your profile. Consider using an image that will interest your target audience.
  5. Making meaningful connections is an important step to network and market yourself.
  6. Including work and education experience shows readers your professional history. Using action words to highlight your accomplishments will enhance your profile.
  7. Writing a summary section is important to introduce yourself, your mission, and relevant interests to individuals viewing your profile.
  8. Updating your headline will intrigue your readers and inform them of your current professional status.
  9. Showcasing your relevant skills will make you stand out to members viewing your profile.
  10. Shortening your profile’s URL to include your first and last name is important. This URL can be used on resumes, personal websites, cover letters, etc.

Customizing your profile is an important step to make your LinkedIn account stand out from others. Thank you for your time in reading this memo, and please contact me if you have further questions about the best practices for using LinkedIn.
