Definition under review: https://blogs.ubc.ca/engl30199c2022w2/2023/02/08/three-definitions-brutalism/

3 Questions:

Is Brutalism still a popular design choice?

Is this definition still accurate when presented to a more knowledgeable audience, or is it overly simplified?

What are the current day benefits that Brutalism enables over different design choices?

First Impressions:

The definitions of the term “Brutalism” create an excellent overview that is easily digested and understood. Being in your target audience I feel confident that I have understood the term. You may want to consider your use of visuals to support your definition in text as opposed to the stand alone at the end. Overall, your writing is concise and thorough and maintains and professional and friendly tone.

Organization:

Text is organized in an easy-to-follow manner.

  • All three definitions present and separated with headings
  • The expanded definition has headings to highlight the different expansion types
  • The choice of visual supports the content, however, consider the placement and referencing the visual
  • The works cited list contains citations that were not directly referenced in-text

Expression:

  • Your Parenthetical and Sentence definitions are both extremely clear and easily understood.
  • You expanded definition has a nice flow by going through the etymology and then history of the term.
  • Introducing a new design term in “minimalism” may be inaccessible

Content:

  • The document is complete according to assignment guidelines. Your post includes
    • A detailed introduction
    • Three forms of definition
    • Four types of expansion and a visual
    • A complete works cited list

Visuals:

  • Excellent choice of visual to highlight the design term you are using. Potentially could have benefitted from being referenced in the expanded definition

Works Cited List:

  • Proper citation style, however lacking in-text citations for some of the listed work
  • Missing image citation in works cited list

Grammar and Typos:

  • No grammatical errors or typos found in the document.

Concluding Comments:

A very impressive write up about a technical term of which I had no prior knowledge about. I feel you accurately encompassed the goal of the assignment in which a reader understands a term. Suggestions to further strengthen the writing are:

  • Reference your visual in your expanded definition. This would have been particularly impactful when describing the five main features
  • Be careful introducing new architectural design terms near the end of your definition, recall in the reading situation the reader is not familiar with architectural terms
  • Be sure to provide in-text citations to referenced work

Overall excellent write up with great flow and tone. Thank you for your time, please feel free to reach out with any questions or thoughts.
