Subject: Ten Best Practices for Using LinkedIn as a Professional Networking Site
Hello Team,
I researched the best practices for using LinkedIn as a networking tool for professionals for our assignment in Unit 2, Lesson 3. Here is a list of ten suggestions that I have compiled:
- Take a Headshot – Attracting people’s attention before they read your profile by uploading a recent, professional-looking picture.
- Write a Eye-Catching Headline – The headline field doesn’t have to be just a job title! The headline field is a good place to tell us a bit more about you, how you see your role, and what motivates you.
- Transform Your Summary – Don’t list skills or titles in the summary. Using it to tell a story can showcase how certain skills can make a difference in relation to the co-working environment.
- Avoid Buzzwords – Using buzzwords doesn’t necessarily say much about yourself. When it’s appropriate, using buzzwords or keywords, show specific job-related qualities that will make the message more persuasive.
- Highlight Your Accomplishments – Adding accomplishments to your profile is an excellent way to showcase what makes you unique among other users on LinkedIn.
- Improve Your Skills – Improving your skills can show your passion for your field. This can be done by using built-in apps like LinkedIn Learning.
- Make Connections – By connecting with more users in the same profession, your profile will be more likely to appear in more relevant searches made by other users.
- Get Endorsed and Endorse Others – Your credibility increases when you receive endorsements from other users. However, it is important to remember that networking is a two-way street, so writing recommendations for those you can vouch for is beneficial.
- Be Active – Being active on LinkedIn is important to grow your network. Making sure that your existing network is aware of your presence to discover more about your role, industry, and potential career opportunities.
- Match Your Resume and LinkedIn – While it is not necessary to have an identical resume and profile, it is important for them to match up. For example, past positions, companies, degrees, licenses, and certifications should be identical, as you wouldn’t want hiring managers thinking that you are being dishonest when cross-examining.
With the following list of suggestions, users will be able to build compelling LinkedIn profiles that will help them network more effectively. This can increase the likelihood of users increasing their LinkedIn profile views and increasing their chances of making industry connections!
I hope you find this list of suggestions useful when using your LinkedIn. Thank-you for reading my memo.
