Subject: Summary of LinkedIn Best Practices Research

Dear Sangita, Tanya, and Helen,

As per our assignment, I have conducted research on the best LinkedIn practices. I have summarized my findings in three sections: profile composition, expanding your network, and job seeking.

Profile Composition:

  1. Create a strong summary section that showcases your passion for your industry. This section is an opportunity to make a great first impression and differentiate yourself. (Reilly)
  2. Highlight notable accomplishments in your summary, including credentials or awards. Mentioning interests can make you more memorable helping to build your professional network.  (Reilly)
  3. Choose a photo that represents you well.  The photo “must be a high-quality, professional picture.” (Navarro)
  4. Keep your LinkedIn page updated with information about your most recent work experience, and resume. (Lannon and Gurak, p.398)
  5. Make sure your LinkedIn profile is appropriate. Be careful what you share on social media because employers may look at them to learn more about your personality. (Lannon and Gurak, p.412)

Network Growth:

  1. Make connections with past coworkers and classmates and “don’t be shy about contacting people you don’t know first-hand but to whom you are connected through a former coworker or classmate.” (Lannon and Gurak, p.398)
  2. Personalize connection requests with a note outlining why you’d like to connect. Actively engage with those who align with your goals, rather than reaching out to as many people as possible. (Pandey)
  3. Join relevant groups to build your network. “By joining relevant groups and participating in discussions, you can learn from others, share your expertise, and build your personal brand.” (Pandey)

Seek Jobs:

  1. Examine employment postings and look up human resource contacts using LinkedIn’s job-seeking features. (Lannon and Gurak, p.655)
  2. Include keywords in your profile to increase visibility to recruiters and employers. Keywords increase your visibility in search engines. (Garg)

I hope this research supports you in fully utilizing LinkedIn to grow. Feel free to reach out if you need any more information.
