The research project on promoting healthy sleep habits among UBC students has commenced. Here is the progress report as of Mar 15, 2023.

The audience of the report:

UBC students, UBC Health Education Alliance (UBC HEAL, with Peter Wu, program coordinator, medical student at UBC)

The purpose of the report:

To propose a program that focuses on promoting healthy sleep habits among UBC students, addressing the issues of poor sleep hygiene that negatively impact their academic performance, mental health, and overall well-being.

The significance of the report:

By promoting sleep education, UBC students can improve their sleep hygiene, which can positively impact their academic performance, mental health, and overall well-being.

Objectives:

  1. Assess the demand for sleep education among UBC students.
  2. Investigate the cost of implementing the program, including providing sleep environment equipment.
  3. Determine the best way to promote the program to students and encourage participation.
  4. Identify potential barriers to implementing the program and suggest ways to address them.

Research plan:

Some work is completed according to the research project, while others are in process.

  1. Lightly discussed possible workshops / programs with UBC student support organizations to gain their support and cooperation.
  2. UBC student clubs agreed to assist with survey dissemination.
  3. Investigate the sleep habits of UBC students and their demand for a sleep promotion program.

  5. Send out the survey when approved
  6. Data collection and analysis
  7. Make recommendations for the sleep promotion education/program.

Timeline:

March 21: Formal report progress report

March 25 or earlier: Send out surveys via UBC student clubs and support organizations

March 30: Close and compile survey results April 1: Analyze data and prepare for the formal report

April 6: Post formal report draft

April 11: Receive peer review and revise the draft

April 18: Submit a formal report.
