BIO

Hi classmates,

Thank you for visiting my BIO page. I would like to introduce myself to you.

My name is Han LI from China. This is my 2nd term in the BCs program, a two-year full-time Second Degree program in Computer Science. It is designed for university graduates who possess a bachelor’s degree outside of computer science and are interested in either making a career transition into information technology or combining their own field with computer science.

I finished my first university degree in Newfoundland, St.Johns, an island in the east of Canada, majoring in International Business. After graduation, I moved to Vancouver and worked as an office admin assistant in a travel company. As our company is not that big, all the employees take multiple roles. I am responsible for various market analyses, including mainland China, Singapore, Malaysia, etc., coordinating operational management and liaise with service suppliers and industry partners. It was challenging but exciting. However, the tourism industry was given a brutal hit by Covid-19, and I witnessed and experienced the collapsibility of the tourism industry from Asia then across the world.

By comparison, various industries have not heard of huge impacts by the Covid-19. Jobs related to computer science are typical examples. So I decide to follow the big data tendency of the times and start a new career path.

My first term at UBC is excellent. I have made many new friends and learned to program with Dr.Racket (a unique experience). I would focus on Stat/Data Science and computer science in the following terms. After graduation from BCs, I hope to find a job as a Data analyst or software engineer in Canada.

Writing clearly and technically in the workplace is the basis for a career path, and this course offers us an opportunity to master it.

Thanks for reading, and excited to know all of you!

Best wishes,

Han Li.
