BIO

My name is Jennifer, and I am a registered dental hygiene practitioner living in Victoria, BC. In 2001, I began my post-secondary education at Camosun College in Computer Science; but after my first year, I switched to the Certified Dental Assistant program. After leaving school, I worked in the dental field for many years. My assisting career spanned general dentistry, orthodontics (braces), periodontics (gum surgery), prosthodontics, dentures, and oral surgery.

During my work, I realized that there were barriers to care for many people. Offices are often only open during school/work hours. Many no longer take insurance. Many dentists are overbooked, and have trouble fitting clients into the schedule. Cost of living is skyrocketing in Victoria, and dental care is becoming out of reach for many. I decided I wanted to open my own dental hygiene clinic where I could reduce some of those barriers. I returned to Camosun College to complete the Registered Dental Hygiene program in 2017, and opened my home-based dental clinic in 2019.

My motto is “Your mouth. Your life. Your schedule.” People can book appointments on statutory holidays, weekends, or typical weekdays. I am available from 8 am to 8 pm in order to reduce the need for people to miss work or school to attend a dental treatment. I accept insurance, and give discounts to those who are experiencing hardship. Since I have no staff, my overhead is low and I can make this model work. My equipment is mobile so that I can treat patients in their own homes or care centres. Additionally, since there is no dentist on site, my clinic can be a great “first step” into care for those who are currently phobic of the dentist or embarrassed after a long time without dental treatment.

I am so excited to be developing this new phase of my 20-year journey in the dental field.
