Hello everyone. My name is Steven Lui. I have finished my third year at UBC. I am majoring in Psychology. I was really fascinated in Psychology since I was young. It always interests me to know about the human interactions with their behavior and mind. It is really intriguing when I see our daily normal behaviors are being explained by different psychological theories. I am particularly interested in emotions and mental disorder. I would like to get into clinical psychology in the future as helping people who are in need is always my interest. Being able to use what I have learnt from class and translating it into actions to help people who are in need is definitely a bonus for me. Beside studying clinical Psychology, I have also thought of working in marketing or human resources after getting my bachelor degree. As these types of jobs also require a deep understanding of human behavior, I believe I will be able to apply psychological theories to aid my work like what I should add in a marketing campaign to attract customers by inducing emotions through various kinds of advertising techniques.
Beside studying Psychology, I have also studied Japanese. I speak Cantonese, English and Mandarin, so it is always interesting to learn a new language. It is because when we are learning a new language, we are also learning their culture. However, it is not an easy task to learn Japanese as the grammatical structures of Japanese are totally different than Chinese or English. If I have an opportunity I would like to work in Japan and experience their culture.
