This page features some of my best works over this term of ENGL 301. I have revised them\u00a0based on the feedback from my teammates and the instructor.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Three Definitions<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It contains\u00a0three definitions for a technical term\u00a0of our own choice. Through this assignment, I realized the importance of having a clear and concise definition. Also,\u00a0having\u00a0target audience\u00a0in mind\u00a0would definitely help in writing good definitions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Peer Review of the Definition Assignment<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was the first peer review I have written. By carefully evaluating\u00a0my teammate\u2019s\u00a0writing strategies\u00a0and offering constructive criticism,\u00a0I was able to learn more techniques in writing better definitions, such as using\u00a0comparison and contrast.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brainstorming an appropriate, doable\u00a0research topic was hard, but\u00a0I\u00a0am really happy that I learnt a ton about\u00a0the research progress.\u00a0The\u00a0lesson I learnt from the Three Definitions assignment also apply here: knowing the audience will guide\u00a0the\u00a0writing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Drafting an outline definitely helped me get started on writing a well-structured formal report, and the progress report was\u00a0really useful in time management. As for survey, I never realized having an appropriate introduction\u00a0could be this important, as this is related to fulfilling research ethics.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

LinkedIn Best Practices Memorandum<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although having been using LinkedIn since my last degree, doing\u00a0research\u00a0on best practices\u00a0let me know more about the platform\u00a0and gave\u00a0me chance to keep improving my\u00a0profile.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Memorandum to Evan Crisp<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Providing suggestions to a student who used inappropriate tone in his email with professor. It was a fun assignment, but made me reflect on some etiquettes of writing professional emails.\u00a0The important lesson here was to use \u201cYou\u201d attitude\u00a0when\u00a0providing suggestions to soften the tone. A lot of the previous assignments were revised based on\u00a0this principle.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Complaint and Adjustment Letters<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Complaint letter is used to express our disappointment towards services, and an adjustment letter is the response to such complaint. Both letters should be concise, but also detailed. Again, appropriate tone is the key.<\/span><\/p>\n

Peer Review of Formal Report Draft\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
