Reflection 3

Reflection 3

Writing

As someone who is majoring in the field of Psychology, a Research Methods course is required to graduate. In other words, conducting an experiment, and writing a report on the results is not really a problem for me; however, I have only taken introductory research methods, so this assignment is considered difficult for me because when I took Research Methods, I was in groups of five where work are distributed evenly between members, so doing this assignment own is really hard.

What I found the most challenging part of this assignment is distributing the surveys. At first,  I didn’t know how and to where should I send it to and I didn’t know who will and who won’t fill it out truthfully. Because we are still in this pandemic, I didn’t want to give it to go on campus and ask people to fill it out, so I decided to use Discord instead.  This option ends up pretty successful because this keeps everyone’s information private and is much quicker to collect data; moreover, I can copy the graph from responses and paste it into my required sections.

Peer Review

This time I feel a lot more confident doing this peer review assignment because  I know what to say and how could I help my partner be successful. For instance, instead of making paragraph-based feedback, I used bullet points and distributed them into subsections, so it will be clearer for my partner to read. Moreover,  I am open to what I should say and use good constructive criticism to help my partner write a great report. As well, as helping me with improving my report.

Above all, unit three was a good experience.  Good experience but a challenging unit as well.

Unit 2 Reflection My best reflection this semester

Reflection Unit 2

In unit 2, we learned to do research on how to create a LinkedIn profile, create a professional social media network, and the process of brainstorming and preparing my report proposal and outlines. We also did peer-reviewing for your partner’s proposal. Finally, we worked on brainstorming for our formal report.

I find Unit two also quite interesting and learned quite a bit about creating a LinkedIn profile, creating a professional social media network, and the process of brainstorming and preparing my report proposals. I realized that each activity that I did had its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that I get to learn how to create a good LinkedIn profile and how important LinkedIn is after my research. I learned that LinkedIn is the primary social media website for finding a job and how important each section of the profile is. For example, how important my headshot is and how to write or what to include in my summary. While, I did learn a lot about creating a LinkedIn profile, doing research is not that easy as there is so much to choose from.

On top of doing research on LinkedIn and professional networking, I also get to learn how to write a proposal and an outline. Since I am an Arts student, I was required to write essay outlines numerous times and  I never learned the proper way until this week. For example, I learned that I should include Roman Numerals, in alphabetical order, and numbers.

On top of that, I also learned that proposal writing is so complicated with so much content. Most importantly, not only did I learn a lot about proposal writing but also, I get to brainstorm for the Formal Report assignment. I find thinking about a topic for the formal report complicated because there is so much to choose from. Upon further thinking, I realize lighting on campus is an issue as it gets really dark at night and there are limited amount lamps, I think this would be an interesting topic to investigate.

Finally, the part I find both challenging and useful is the peer-reviewing process. I find it challenging because I worry that I might say something hurtful without realizing it. Or, the document is well written that I have no idea what to say. Aside from the challenging part, I find peer review really helpful as it gives others the opportunity to provide feedback and point out what I missed or should be changed. For example, my main problem is grammar and receiving feedback helped me improve and edit my work to make it better.

Overall, this unit 2 was a unique experience for me.
