All good things come to an end, the same goes for ENVR 448a. We finished our draft for the brochure and collected one more data set, and this marked an end for this course.
At the beginning of this course, we were all excited about this project and imagined what the outcome would be. Then we collected a lot of datasets about the earth and related anthropogenic impacts. Finally, we made infographic aids for the symphony in form of brochures(posters). We have learned a lot during this project, such as teamwork and communication based on audiences. We believe visual aids will be a good addition to the symphony itself because people can understand more information related to the music.
We did have doubts about the music, thinking it might turn out plain. But hearing the preliminary sonification made by Chris gave us all a nice surprise. The symphony sounds musical, dramatic, yet scientific. With all the earth and human-related data, the symphony will make people more hopeful about the future. For example, even though the carbon dioxide concentration has been increasing, the average human life span has been increasing. This symphony also draws people’s attention to less common data, such as space junk and forest fire.
Although this course has come to an end, this project will continue until April. Some of us may stay, and improve the visual aids furtherly or help on other aspects. We really appreciate this opportunity working on this project and working with each other.
