The following are some of my proud accomplishments during my time in ENGL301:
Definition Assignment: 301-Eric-Hsu-Three-Definition
This assignment reaffirmed my belief about how important it is to have the ability to use the appropriate explanation when explaining a technical term or jargon to someone unfamiliar with the term. I think being able to generate three levels of definition will be a great help when communicating with people in professional fields, whether it be talking to your client or discussing issues with your colleagues. The tern I chose was Open Reduction Internal Fixation.
Complaint Letter: 301-Eric-Hsu-Complaint-Letter
A valuable tip I learned is to avoid using negative words by replacing them with more neutral and factual words. Additionally, if I am in a situation in which the usage of negative words is unavoidable, selecting euphemisms or the least intense synonyms will be a good idea. I wrote a letter to Air Canada to complaint a recent flight cancellation incident.
Formal Report Proposal: 301-Eric-Hsu-Formal-Report-Proposal
My report aimed to improve member satisfaction of Badminton BC. I needed to conduct research to understand the current state of the organization, existing problems and come up with solutions for its problems. I have also learned to formulate a set of interview questions to collect specific detail for my report and a survey to collect feedback from a larger population.
Peer Review: 301-Eric-Hsu-Three-Definition-Peer-Review
This was the first time for me to peer review my teammates' work. I was surprised by the variety in writing styles and interpretations of the assignment.
