We divided the video lessons into three modules:<\/p>\n

  1. Introduction to GIS: key concepts<\/li>\n
  2. GIS and large datasets<\/li>\n
  3. Mapping in free vs proprietary software<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The videos introduce key ideas, using Earth Science examples. In general, they teach GIS concepts and demonstrate a wide range of ways that GIS can be used. We want students to gain a broad understanding of how GIS can be applied in the Earth Sciences.<\/p>\n

    Each module has a short accompanying worksheet. These are designed to help students reflect on the video content. The worksheets also encourage students to think about GIS applications in the Earth Sciences.<\/p>\n

    We largely avoid giving step-by-step guidance for specific tasks, so that the videos can be used in a range of different courses. This detailed, goal-oriented GIS training is instead done through lab exercises.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
