In Socrates\u2019 dialogues, philosophy as an activity of truth telling was not to arrive at true propositions or statements, nor to gain political power, but to actively examine thought and condct. Foucault (2011) highlights that Socrates took care of others so they might \u201clearn to take care of themselves.\u201d Together we will explore: What are some of the implications of approaching philosophy as askesis (an act of care) in philosophy for children?<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">ABOUT BRUCE<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bruce is part of the team of <a href=\"http:\/\/vip4c.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Vancouver Institute for Philosophy for Children\u00a0(<strong>VIP4C<\/strong>)<\/a>. His research interests are ethics and history of ethics in educational practices. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in psychology and Post- Baccalaureate in education philosophy from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Arts in human development, learning, and culture at the University of British Columbia.
