An exciting workshop lead by Dr. Walter Kohan Professor of Philosophy of Education at the State University of Rio de Janeiro.<\/div>\n

This session is titled after Dr. Kohan\u2019s book, Paulo Freire: More than Ever?!<\/b><\/i>,\u00a0which will address the impossibility of education, time, and emancipation. Please see attached flyer for more information.\u00a0

Engaged philosophical inquiry (EPI)<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is a way of facilitating a democratic and open-ended dialogue between children, youth and adults around bigger and smaller questions about life, knowledge, value, and meaning. Example questions of children are: \u201cWhy does it take so long to make good friends, but so short to make enemies?\u201d, \u201cWhat is pure happiness?\u201d, \u201cShould bullies be punished?\u201d, or \u201cDo you deserve what you get in life?\u201d This long established inquiry-based way of teaching can be used in various settings: in school, at home, in public, etc. It encourages people of all ages to read, listen, think critically, feel deeply, see things from multiple perspectives, and develop social responsibility.<\/p>\n

This Engaged Philosophical Inquiry Consortium connects scholars, practitioners, students and everyone interested in this pedagogy. It offers and helps organize:<\/p>\n
