The 5th EPI symposium took place on January 24th.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u2018Engaged Philosophical Inquiry<\/strong>\u2019 is a form of community based dialogue that makes not only children, but citizens of all ages, ponder about existential and open-ended questions like: \u201cWhat is happiness?”\u00a0 “Who is a friend?” \u201cWhat is freedom?\u201d etc. The aim is to think critically, creatively and collaboratively and thus, to cultivate democracy and social responsibility.<\/p>\n

This symposium is part of an ongoing series of symposia and workshops, which are conducted for faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as practitioners who are interested in participating in this research, teaching and community initiative. <\/i>At this meeting we welcome Professor Kim Schonert-Reichl<\/strong> and Claire Rushton<\/strong>, two faculty members and passionate practitioners at UBC to talk about how Engaged Philosophical Inquiry can connect with the core competencies within the new B.C Ministry of Education curriculum & assessment framework<\/strong>. We will address both, current opportunities and challenges as we envision EPI in schools. During the last hour of our meeting, we will have time to discuss possible workshop topics and speakers for our meetings to come in 2014 as well as our visions and goals as the BC hub of Engaged Philosophical Inquiry.<\/p>\n
