Who can do the assessments?

In order to be able to identify a student with a learning disability, one must be diagnosed from a professional that belongs to the college of Psychologists. In the school, a school psychologist and educational psychologist are the ones involved with the students.

Since there are more than one learning disablity, in order to continue with early intervention or developing intervention strategies, there needs to be a professional to be qualified to do the assessments.

As mentioned above, a psychologist is needed to identify of a specific learning disability. This includes dyslexia, language based dysgraphia or dyscalculia.  An occupational therapist can also perform assessments on certain learning diabilities that require motor based learning disabilities such as dysgraphia, or developmental coordination disorder. At times,  a speech pathologist can also help identify the needs of students with a difficulty producing sounds and having speech sound disorders.
