These days it seems like it’s hard to watch a movie, television show, or even a music video without seeing product placement in one way or another. This seems to be an effective way of marketing that is beginning to see a rise as the years go on.
I can see why. If you have a blockbuster movie like Transformers which I used as an example in the video below it makes sense for companies to show an interest in getting their product or brand into the movie as it will be seen by millions of people worldwide. Sometimes you can watch a movie like this and sit through the whole thing without noticing the advertisement going on within it.
What I found interesting about this video was the mixed reactions it received in the comments. There’s some people who suggest that product placement like this is beginning to turn movies into one big commercial, but on the other end of the spectrum there are people who really enjoy this type of advertising because it makes the movies seem more like real life and allows the viewers to sort of connect in a way that they couldn’t before.
Personally, i don’t mind product placement. I agree that it does allow someone to relate to the movie a little bit if they see these actors using the same everyday brands that they use. Like most people, I can sometimes get annoyed with commercials so this style of marketing works for me because it is subtle, but still allows for large exposure. I linked a funny little video below which satirizes the trend of product placement in television. I’d love to hear what others think about the rise of product placement all around us and whether you are for or against seeing it!
