{"id":37,"date":"2010-10-29T10:37:08","date_gmt":"2010-10-29T18:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/erikjackson\/?p=37"},"modified":"2010-10-29T10:37:08","modified_gmt":"2010-10-29T18:37:08","slug":"too-much","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/erikjackson\/2010\/10\/29\/too-much\/","title":{"rendered":"Too much?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marketers are always looking for ways to mix things up, to separating themselves from competitors by having advertisements that are unique and that stand out.\u00a0 But sometimes, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.womansday.com\/Articles\/Family-Lifestyle\/10-Controversial-Billboards.html\" target=\"_blank\">this website points out<\/a>, marketers may cross lines or take things a bit too far.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone\u2019s judgement is different when it come\u2019s to determining if an advertisement is out of line.\u00a0 Obviously in the case of the company that used Barack Obama\u2019s picture without his permission was the wrong thing to do, but what about the other billboards such as the one for the funeral home.\u00a0 Although most likely a joke, this company is pretty much telling people to jump onto the subway tracks in order for their business to increase.\u00a0 To me, something like this should not be allowed to be advertised.\u00a0 Sure the company would probably say it\u2019s all fun and games but the point where a billboard advertisement is pretty much telling people they want them to die is where it crosses the line.<\/p>\n<p>My question is simply this.\u00a0 Is there a limit to how a company can advertise or is it more about whatever you need to do to sell your product.
