  • Prefers moist to wet soil

Leaves:

  • Dense foliage; extremely lush once established
  • Linear leaves; glaucous
  • Semi-evergreen perennial

Flowers:

  • Tall inflorescence; drooping flower spikes on tall stems
  • Flower spikes are cylindrical and slightly resemble catkins
  • 1-2 male spikes at the top, followed by 4-5 female spikes toward the bottom
  • Stems move in the wind in an interesting way

Suitable uses:

  • Industrial or institutional setting
  • Woodland garden
  • Waterside planting
  • Massing; interesting movement in wind

Other:

  • ‘no nonsense sedge’
  • Slightly industrial or ‘rough’ in appearance
  • Competitive; often self-sows; will take off with moisture – with the potential to become slightly aggressive; weedy to invasive in some areas around the world
