The world can move at an alarmingly fast speed sometimes, and 2020 was a very sure indication of that. As we constantly try to catch up with everything that happens around us, we don’t always acknowledge the things we do for ourselves!

In this ES Connected edition, the Admissions team presents:

The List of Things We Are Giving Ourselves Pats on Our Backs For

These are the little things we’re proud of!

Adiba Jat – prioritizing quality time with my loved ones.

Charles Dai – I’m really proud of making money for my family and working at UBC.

Chiara Mason – I am really proud of myself for getting outside for a walk every day. It sounds like such a simple thing, but it has made a really big difference!

Daniel Dias – I’ve improved my time management skills.

Eleanor Ball – I finished reading all the books on my 2020 reading list!

Emma Chen – I am proud of myself for advancing my skills in Adobe design software.

John Bryant – I’m really proud of myself for taking up cross country skiing again (in addition to my regular downhill).

Judy Lee – I am proud of myself for trying new recipes and cooking more at home.

Kim Leary – I am most proud of learning to embroider. (Check out Kim’s work in the photos!)

Narcena Wong – I’ve been wanting to try to order groceries online and have it delivered. Was afraid of getting crappy stuff. And was hesitant about this. Well, during this time of “lockdown” it has been successful. Tried No-Frills and picked it up. Save On delivery is good too.

Paola Baca – I’m really proud of making Triple O Tuesday lunches* with my 14 year old son a priority and a habit this fall and ongoing while we WFH.
* We always get take-out!

Rebeca Lau – One thing that I am proud of is that I resume writing! And even if it is a few lines per day or a few couple of days, I am proud of accepting the fact that I am putting some time and space aside to write.

Somi Chuhon – My “pat on the back” is having more time at home has given me the chance to do a lot of household purging of items and giving many of it away on the “Buy Nothing” Facebook groups, or donating to thrift stores and bookstores that are accepting. It’s a nice psychological release to let go of decades of items that I no longer need to hold onto.

Terry Chui – Even with Covid, this year I am proud the effort I made to maintain some of the important relationships in my life with old high school friends and distant family members

Thalia Lang – Always having a fresh pair of sweatpants for the work day.

Yvette Shen – Double checking all my work to ensure accuracy – this is something I wanted to improve for a long time and I am really improving on that so I am proud of it.
