Here’s a few of the folks who have joined ES over the past few months and attended a New to ES Welcoming Committee (ESWC) meeting. When you spot them online or in the hallway make sure to say hello! If you have new colleagues join your team, please let us know at es.hrle@ubc.ca and we’ll invite them to an upcoming ESWC meeting, which take place the last Wednesday of each month.

Alex Drost

(he, him, his)
Scheduling Coordinator, Scheduling Services, Vancouver campus

I did my undergraduate degree in English Literature with a minor in German at the University of Alberta, and before I came to UBC, for the past 4 years, I worked for the City of Edmonton as a traffic enforcement peace officer. Currently, I am also an accounting student. In 2021, my wife and I moved to Vancouver and since then I have been looking out for job opportunities at UBC, so I am thrilled to be working at UBC now!

Amy Chu

(she/her)
Admissions Coordinator, Undergraduate Admissions, Vancouver campus

I joined UBC Hiring Solutions last December and my first role was the profile reader for undergraduate applications. After my assignment ended, I joined ES Scheduling Services for about half a year and I am happy to be back to undergraduate admissions as an admissions coordinator in the domestic high school team.

Cady Tran (Thi Minh Hai)

(she/her)
Associate Admissions Advisor, Undergraduate Admissions, Vancouver campus

I’m a Vietnamese Canadian, joining UBC in 2019, as a Graduate Award Clerk within Faculty of Graduate and Doctoral Studies.

I just recently joined the Admission crew as an Associate Admission Advisor. My job area is evaluating admission criteria’s and rendering admission decisions for direct entry high school applicants within BC and USA.

My favorite time of the week is Saturday afternoon, when I would go out with my family (2 adults, 3 kids aged 7, 5, and 1), exploring parks and natures. All of us are outdoorsy, and love to swim, hike, go picnic and camping.

I also set aside Sunday afternoons to volunteer at Richmond Chess Club, where we organize free play for all chess lovers in Minoru Library, Richmond. Our family enjoy playing chess every evening.

Look forward to connecting with everyone, especially those with kids. I’m pretty sure we can talk nonstop about our kids moments, both the fun and horrible parts.

Kari Hachey

Student Support Assistant, Student Records and Financial Services, Okanagan campus

I graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a BA in Psychology and Conflict Resolution. I spent 1.5 years teaching English in South Korea and travelling before meeting my husband and settling in Calgary, Ab. There, I spent 10 years working in the Advancing Futures Bursary program with Youth transitioning out of Government care while supporting them to attend post secondary education. My passion for post secondary came from working with hundreds of institutions across Alberta as a sponsor and empowering youth to make a future for themselves. We moved to the Okanagan in Summer 2021 to be closer to my family and my goal of working in post secondary has now become a reality. I’m so excited to be here!

Ask me about: My trip into North Korea, true crime podcasts, raising 2 girls (the struggle is real) and rescuing pit bulls.
