Name: Binky Rollins

Mom: Theresa Rollins, Equity & Inclusion Office

Zenia: Excuse me! Do you have a moment for an interview? We see you around Brock Hall often and the questions are always flooding in. Who is that dapper dog? What’s his name? Can I pet him? Will he be my friend? Does he even notice me?

Binky: Of course! I’m happy to spare a few moments.

Zenia: You look familiar but I can’t seem to put my finger on it.

Binky: *laughs a hearty belly laugh*. I get this all the time. I know what you’re thinking. The muscular physique, clear disposition for athleticism, the quiet and intense demeanor? Yes, I’ve heard it all! I’m not related to Kawhi but the similarities are uncanny. I’m also just a fun guy.

Zenia: I can see that! Could you tell us your name and what your role at UBC is? You seem like an understated fellow but it’s obvious you hold an important position here.

Binky: I’m Binky Rollins, the Chief Morale Officer at UBC’s Equity & Inclusion Office. In my role I help the office develop a morale framework, a morale strategic plan, a morale plan of action, a morale roadmap and a morale initiatives vision. None to be confused with one another, of course. Yes, I’m optimistic about the future of morale at UBC. I think we’re laying down the foundational biscuits. If all the smiles I get in the hallway are any indication, I’d say people are happy with my performance!

Zenia: What a fulfilling role! What do you think are small things UBC can do to continue to build morale?

Binky: Dogs. We need more of them in every office and every corner. I’m stretched thin. Wagging my tail and being a good boy for 8 hours straight is exhausting work. I pushed for a canine budget in the new strategic plan but legal didn’t bite. I’ll keep on trying!

Zenia: I can’t think of a better way to spend taxpayer money. How do you manage your time with so many duties?

Binky: The key is to not. At 12 and a half years old, I’ve worked hard and am gearing up for my retirement. I work three days a week at the EIO in Brock Hall and spend two days hiking with my pals in North Van. I believe life is meant to be lived. As we say in the canine world, would you rather chase the T-bone your whole life or enjoy the Purina life gave you?

Zenia: Well said. I think TLC has a similar quote! How do you plan on spending your retirement?

Binky: The great thing about being a dog is my retirement will look just like my working life. I’ll go for naps, hikes with my pal Zuzu, daily deep life chats with Verina and eat to my heart’s content within my vet’s strict dietary restrictions. You often see me in my sweater vests and business casual attire at Brock but after 5pm I jump right into my Addidog sweatsuit. Retirement/sweats life is going to be great.

*Binky smiles off into the distance*

Zenia: We’ll make sure to enjoy your company as much as possible before you’re off to retirement! Thanks for interview, Binky! I’m sure more ES folks will stop for a hi and a quick pat now.

Binky: Of course! That’s what I’m here for!
