UBC has launched a project to improve and transform its scheduling pattern and academic course scheduling model. In alignment with the University’s core purpose and the new strategic plan, Shaping UBC’s Next Century, this project will work collaboratively with the scheduling community to develop innovative, flexible and future proof solutions to support transformative teaching and learning. Dr. Pam Ratner, Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Enrolment and Academic Facilities and Executive Sponsor of this project, has issued a statement to support this initiative: “The strategic plan has identified education renewal, program redesign, practical learning, interdisciplinary education and student experience as key strategies.  We will be teaching differently in the future and our infrastructure must support that work.”

As Scheduling Services team is undertaking this project, we had to implement some staffing changes in the past few months to ensure sufficient resource capacity and support scheduling portfolio from both the operational and the scheduling project perspectives.

As of now, our operational team is led by Oana Toma, Senior Manager, Scheduling and Special Projects and supported by Denis Zhelenkov, Manager, Scheduling Services and Ellen Luu, Team Lead, Scheduling Services. The cross-functional scheduling team also consists of five scheduling coordinators that are assigned to one of the scheduling portfolios: May Chow, Brigitte Priebe, Rachel Tang, Olivia Zhou, and Ryan Lai.

The project team is led by Annie Yim as a Project Lead and Oana Toma as a Business Lead. Denis Zhelenkov supports the scheduling project as a Project Coordinator. Content and data expertise for this project is provided by Sahir Moosvi, Business Data Analyst, Victoria Liu and Jane Young, Scheduling Analysts, while the communication, engagement and change management work is led by Coby Thurmeier, Change Management and Communications Strategist and Claudio Storelli, Change Management and Communications Analyst.

Both teams are located at Brock Hall (basement). Feel free to stop by and meet our team in person!
