Tuition wavers<\/h3>\n<p>The <a title=\"Tuition Fee Waver website\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.finance.ubc.ca\/payroll\/benefits\/tuition.cfm\">Tuition Fee Benefit<\/a> covers tuition costs to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hr.ubc.ca\/benefits\/eligibility\/\">eligible<\/a>\u00a0employees, up to a maximum of 12 credits of undergraduate credit courses per year; this benefit can also be transferred to the staff member&#8217;s spouse or children.<\/p>\n<p>Waivers also cover the dollar equivalent in tuition for non-credit courses offered by UBC Continuing Studies and UBC Okanagan Continuing Studies. This benefit\u00a0<i>cannot<\/i>\u00a0be transferred to spouses or children.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hr.ubc.ca\/benefits\/professional-development\/management-professional\/\">Management staff<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hr.ubc.ca\/benefits\/professional-development\/non-union-tech\/\">nonunion technicians<\/a>\u00a0are eligible for waivers for graduate-level courses and programs. This benefit\u00a0<i>cannot<\/i>\u00a0be transferred to spouses or children.<\/p>\n<h5>Eligibility<\/h5>\n<p>Eligibility generally requires at least 3 months of service (12 months for hourly staff) &amp; at least 50% FTE. However, check the specific\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hr.ubc.ca\/benefits\/professional-development\/\">eligibility requirements for your employment group<\/a><\/p>\n<h5>How to apply for a tuition waiver<\/h5>\n<p><b>Credit waivers:<\/b>\u00a0register for all courses, then apply for a waiver through\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.msp.ubc.ca\/\">Employee Self Service<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Continuing Studies:<\/b>\u00a0Obtain the course number online or from the Continuing Studies catalogue, and then apply for a waiver through\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.msp.ubc.ca\/\">Employee Self Service<\/a>. The waiver will be sent to Continuing Studies and used to register you. Do\u00a0<i>not<\/i>\u00a0register for your course before obtaining a waiver<\/p>\n<h5>Help and Instructions:<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www2.finance.ubc.ca\/payroll\/benefits\/StaffTuitionWaiverInstructions.cfm\">Submitting a Staff Tuition Waiver online<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www2.finance.ubc.ca\/payroll\/benefits\/HowtoUpdateaStaffWaiver.cfm\">Amending a Staff Tuition Waiver online<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www2.finance.ubc.ca\/payroll\/benefits\/CancellingStaffTuitionWaivers.cfm\">Cancelling a Staff Tuition Waiver online<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>2. Job Skills Training Plan (JSTP) for CUPE staff<\/h3>\n<p>Job Skills Training Program (JSTP) funding is available to support the professional development needs of staff in the CUPE 2950 employment group.<\/p>\n<p>Some changes for 2013-2014 funding year include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Individual funding limit for JSTP Fund set at\u00a0$1000\u00a0($200 decrease)<\/li>\n<li>Discontinuation of quarterly allocation of PD Funds, returning to annual system where all funds are released at once. Funds distributed to staff on a first come, first served basis until end of fund year or exhaustion of the available budgeted funds<\/li>\n<li>Activity start date no longer defines the timing of a JSTP\u00a0\u00a0submission<\/li>\n<li>All receipts must be submitted within\u00a060 days\u00a0of the original purchase date.<\/li>\n<li>Find out more about the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hr.ubc.ca\/memos\/staff-employee-group-specific-professional-development-funds-updates-for-the-20132014-funding-year\/\" target=\"_blank\">JSTP professional development fund changes<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Lynda.com<\/h5>\n<p>CUPE staff have free access to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lynda.com\/aboutus\/benefits.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Lynda.com<\/a>,\u00a0an industry leading software and technology online training service. Registration information is available on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hr.ubc.ca\/learning-development\/software-training\/\" target=\"_blank\">HR online software training webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5>Accessing JSTP funds<\/h5>\n<p>The current JSTP Funding Year runs from April 1, 2013 \u2013 March 31, 2014. Please read the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hr.ubc.ca\/learning-development\/files\/JSTP-guidelines-June-2013.pdf\">JSTP guidelines<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hr.ubc.ca\/learning-development\/funding\/cupe-2950\/\">JSTP funding page<\/a> to learn what kind of activities are eligible, and how to apply.<\/p>\n<h3>3. M&amp;P professional development fund<\/h3>\n<p>M&amp;P funding is available to support professional development for Management and Professional staff at UBC.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Many changes to the M&amp;P fund were made in June and include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Individual funding limit for M&amp;P PD Fund set at\u00a0$550\u00a0($200 decrease)<\/li>\n<li>Discontinuation of quarterly allocation of PD Funds , returning to annual system where all funds are released at once. Funds distributed to staff on a first come, first served basis until end of fund year or exhaustion of the available budgeted funds.<\/li>\n<li>PD Expense claims accepted (fund reopened) for the remainder of this funding year.<\/li>\n<li>PD Expense claims can be submitted as soon as the payment is made.
