Welcome to the week where we take a look at the Politics of Educational Technology.
Below is our reading list for the week, you’ll want to give these a read before you proceed on with viewing the site and discussions in Connect.
- Haraway, D. (1985). A manifesto for cyborgs. Socialist Review, 15(2), 65-107. (University Readers course package)
- Kahn, R. & Kellener, D. (2007). Paulo Freire and Ivan Illich: Technology, politics and the reconstruction of education. Policy Futures in Education, 5(4).
We’ve decided to go with humour, media and rely on your participation to tackle this week’s seemingly daunting issues. The group has decided to stay away from providing you with our interpretation of the readings to allow for different angles to emerge. Instead, we’ve selected a variety of YouTube videos and comics to begin the discussion.
Before you move ahead, think briefly about some of the following questions as a guide:
1) What are some Politics in Educational Technology issues that you see/have seen in educational settings?
2) Have the politics been a hinderance or enabled progression in the education field?
