During the “unmonitored” discussion week in 512, one aspect of on-line discussion that was brought up several times was the desire to work in smaller groups. For this next activity, we have placed everyone into groups and have tried to put those with similar working or teaching backgrounds together. Over the next week, you need to contact the people in your group (by exchanging e-mails, Skype addresses, setting up a Google Docs or other) to discuss the following:
Even though the debate between Piaget and Vygotsky was heated at times, they both agreed on the following point.
“The human will transform to meet its own needs when faced with opposite forces”.
With your small group, referring to this quote, think of your own teaching or work place and discuss events (concerning technology) that you have experienced where personal transformation or changes have taken place due to situations that you were faced with. Discuss how you feel that certain situations are different according to your subject area.
In addition to discussing this topic, take this time to touch base with others who have similar (or perhaps different) backgrounds as yourself. Share any new experiences with technology that you feel could benefit others who are working in similar situations.
After sharing your stories and discussing with your group via Google Docs or other, collaboratively create a summary of the transformations you experienced as well as any other stories your group would like to share with us. Select one member of the group to post this to the course thread for week 12 Piaget Presentation.
After the groups have posted their summaries, please feel free to read and respond to other groups’ experiences.
