{"id":847,"date":"2010-11-07T08:13:54","date_gmt":"2010-11-07T16:13:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec521sept10\/?p=847"},"modified":"2010-11-07T08:23:39","modified_gmt":"2010-11-07T16:23:39","slug":"aboriginal-healing-foundation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec521sept10\/2010\/11\/07\/aboriginal-healing-foundation\/","title":{"rendered":"Aboriginal Healing Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec521sept10\/files\/2010\/11\/AHF.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-849\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec521sept10\/files\/2010\/11\/AHF.jpg\" alt=\"Aboriginal Healing Foundation\" width=\"228\" height=\"221\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I found the <a title=\"AFN\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ahf.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aboriginal Healing Foundation <\/a>while reading several research articles by Dr. William Mussell, one titled <a title=\"Cultural Pathways for Decolonization\" href=\"http:\/\/www.heretohelp.bc.ca\/publications\/aboriginal-people\/bck\/2\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Cultural Pathways for Decolonization&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0and another called &#8220;Warrior-caregivers: Understanding the challenges and healing of First Nations men.&#8221; The title of the latter reminded me about the Fraser River Journey film and Skyler&#8217;s father&#8217;s discussion about the importance of First Nations warriors and the warrior&#8217;s transition in modern culture. Several of Dr. Mussell&#8217;s articles are housed at AHF.ca.<\/p>\n<p>The AHF has a very comprehensive and diverse\u00a0board of directors and has received quite a significant amount of funding since its creation in 1998. More than\u00a0$350 million in fact.\u00a0Now it&#8217;s not exactly a $350 million website in terms of design and usability\u00a0\ud83d\ude09 but\u00a0the resources related to residential schools are\u00a0particularly good\u00a0and I recommend that anybody who is looking at residential schooling in more detail review the &#8220;residential school bibliography&#8221;in the publications section.<\/p>\n<p>It is also interesting to note how important a role holism plays in mission statement of this organization. I must admit I hadn&#8217;t given much thought to the idea of holism before the start of this course but now find the idea playing a central role in my own everyday life.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the foundation will be closed permanently in September 2012.
