Jason, I really enjoyed how your analysis went beyond looking at Speak simply as a successful AI language-learning app and considered whether its competitive advantages are actually sustainable. I was especially interested in your point about Speak’s expansion beyond Asia. Its success in South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan is impressive, but I agree that the claim that the experience can scale globally with “almost no modifications” deserves some caution. Different markets may value speaking fluency for very different reasons, so localization may need to involve more than translating content.

Your BUY recommendation also made me think more about what Speak’s real competitive moat is. The proprietary speech-recognition system and growing dataset seem powerful, particularly when combined with its expansion into the corporate market. However, you also note its dependence on GPT-4 and the falling barriers to entry for conversational AI. That creates an interesting tension: as foundational AI models become accessible to more competitors, perhaps Speak’s long-term advantage will depend less on having better AI itself and more on the quality of its learner data, pedagogy, and ability to turn that data into noticeably better learning outcomes.

I’m curious: what evidence would make you reconsider your BUY recommendation? For example, would weaker adoption in Western markets be enough, or would you still invest if the enterprise side continued to grow strongly?
