A3 Venture Pitch: BeakerFlow

BeakerFlow is an all in one lab management platform. It solves issues regarding teacher time usage, money, and mental fatigue. This is something that I developed to solve issues I see as a science teacher, and to be optimally helpful to as many teachers as possible. Any feedback you could provide on the pitches would be very helpful.

    Awesome. BeakerFlow is a practical and well-presented venture that addresses real problems in science teaching. Its main strength is the integrated platform, which combines lab inventory, student grouping, absentee support, shared resources, and teacher collaboration. This could reduce platform fatigue and save teachers’ time.
    Its clear focus on K–12 science education is another advantage, since many existing tools are designed for broader or different markets. The automation features also strengthen the value proposition by reducing repetitive work.
    I would be interested in its potential to improve workflow efficiency and reduce teacher workload.

    Hi Logan,

    You’ve made a really thorough presentation for BeakerFlow. However, at this moment, I would not invest. The main reason is I don’t quite see how it addresses the problems you’ve raised.

    – Which and how many platforms would it be replacing to alleviate platform fatigue?
    – How will it reduce prep time? You mentioned student sorting, but in my class that takes seconds. Is it much longer in science labs? Regarding materials tracking: is this something the teacher generally is responsible for?
    – Same as above: how long does it take to catch up absentee students, and is this enough of a problem to adopt BeakerFlow?

    I think this is a really solid idea, and I would revisit investment once the connection between the problems and solution is clearer. Thanks!

    I thought Beaker Flow addressed several very practical challenges that science teachers face, especially the amount of time involved in preparing labs, managing materials, organizing student groups, and supporting students who are absent. I really liked the idea of bringing these different functions together in one platform, particularly since reducing platform fatigue is one of the problems the venture is trying to address. The automatic absentee work and shared lab database also stood out to me as useful features.

    One thing I would be interested in learning more about is the K–12 target market. Some of the features, such as lab preparation, material tracking, and ordering, seemed particularly valuable for middle and secondary science teachers. I wondered how Beaker Flow would adapt to the needs of younger elementary classrooms, where science instruction and lab activities can look quite different. A clearer picture of how the platform would support teachers across different grade levels would make the overall K–12 opportunity more compelling to me.

    Overall, I thought this was a practical and interesting venture with a lot of potential. Great job!

    FEEDBACK: Hi Logan,

    I think BeakerFlow addressed several practical challenges specific to science teaching, and I liked the inventory and materials-management component. I know that would be VERY attractive to our science teachers within my division especially for labs! Your pricing, competitor comparison, and plan to move from individual STEM teachers towards schools and divisions also makes me believe that venture is viable.

    From an EVA lens, I would be interested in seeing the organizational value further developed. For example, could BeakerFlow demonstrate measurable savings through things like reduced material waste, coordinated purchasing, shared inventory, and teacher time saved? I think demonstrating these efficiencies would strengthen the use case for schools/divisions as paying customers rather than primarily relying on individual teacher adoption.

    I also wonder if honing in on the middle and secondary science market rather than the broader K-12 would strengthen the market entry strategy, since lab preparation, inventory, and materials management becomes increasingly complex at those levels.

    I liked that BeakerFlow comes directly from lived experience as a science teacher, and I can see the value in reducing the number of disconnected systems involved in labs, resources, inventory, and student support.

    From an investment perspective, though, I think that the venture may be trying to solve too many problems at once. It would be great to solve all of the problems, of course, but I found myself wondering which one would be the most important or impactful to build a business off of. I think starting with one strong area which science departments would value and purchase, prototyping it, and then expanding into other areas once the original idea was validated would be the best way to go.

    By narrowing the market and product and testing that, I think BeakerFlow would yield the best results. Thank you for the interesting idea, and good luck with BeakerFlow!

    Hi Logan, very nice elevator pitch. It provided a great overview of what BeakerFlow is hoping to accomplish. It was a short, to-the-point explanation with good detail on explaining each design choice.
    I feel that the K-12 intended target users are a massive range. As a Grade 3 teacher in a K-4 elementary school, I haven’t heard of a specialized science teacher for this age range before. We often just have our office administration do bulk orders for grade teams every couple of months. Perhaps this edtech would be best geared toward teachers and students such as Grade 5 and up (I.e., Division 2, 3, and 4 in Alberta). I feel this age range/science teacher role would be better suited for this support.
    Another consideration is that this edtech does a lot. Is the focus on wanting to support educators with task design (science-related preparation such as material tracking and ordering, shared lab database, colleague help) or more classroom management (student group sorting, absentee work)? By fine-tuning this focus, I think science educators would be more likely to buy into BeakerFlow as a good solution to a specific problem they face.

Your ‘championship’ segment is a strong component of your pitch: you know your audience, and you provide excellent research to support the pain point. Your discussion around data privacy is thoughtful and well-researched.

    I like the concept of BeakerFlow and even though I am not in the science world, I can totally appreciate how it would be useful in the science classroom! I thought you had great visuals in both the elevator pitch and the venture pitch. The idea of combining the different functions into one platform is a great concept as it addresses many of the challenges you outlined.

    One thing that I think would have added value to your presentation is taking a different direction for the elevator pitch, as it was very similar in style to your venture pitch. Having music incorporated in the venture pitch and using a different medium may have helped hook me into your idea right away.

    I will also echo what other classmates mentioned around the size of your target market. I believe that K-12 is a broad range and it may have been more fruitful to narrow it down to middle and high school students.

    Overall, great job!
