My name is Doug, and I am currently taking my 5th and 6th MET courses. I am currently nearing the end of a deferred salary leave which has been amazing for my mental and physical health after a very stressful few years. Many have asked me if I am looking forward to going back to work in September, and I can enthusiastically say yes, and I think the MET program has had a strong influence on that.
I’ll be going back into schools that have had no decrease in enrolment, yet are expecting a 1.5 FTE cut between them (for about 400 students total.) Using technology to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of my (and my colleagues) practice is foremost in my mind.
I teach music, band, technology and whatever else needs doing. I’m the computer guy, the sound guy and the projector guy. I also volunteer as a Ski Patroller through the Canadian Ski Patrol at my local hill.
Hi Doug – I believe that we shared some courses a while back… I took a break last term and was worried that I was going to be out of sync with the rest of my usual cohort and would not “know” people 🙂
I wish you the best for your return in September and yes I agree that MET has this very invigorating/rejuvenating effect. BTW, I think you being the main contact person for anything tech likely resonates with a lot of the MET people (for example,. I’m on speed dial for many of my colleagues for this same reason).
