{"id":1946,"date":"2009-09-14T20:03:19","date_gmt":"2009-09-15T04:03:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec522sept09\/?p=1946"},"modified":"2009-09-14T20:03:19","modified_gmt":"2009-09-15T04:03:19","slug":"ubc-it-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec522sept09\/2009\/09\/14\/ubc-it-service\/","title":{"rendered":"UBC IT Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UBC IT Services<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ted Dodds Chief Information Officer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Strengths:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ted Dodds is an articulate, credible speaker who seems to have a clear vision where the UBC IT Services e-learning strategy is headed.\u00a0 The e-strategy framework is an excellent idea.\u00a0 It is inclusive and flexible plan, designed to reach out to early adopters of technology and faculty communities, avoiding centralization.\u00a0 The management team seems very strong.\u00a0 The team building process is inclusive where \u201cthought leaders\u201d and early adopters are invited to participate in the process from the early development stage, contributing to the over all vision.\u00a0 This inclusive and empowering strategy may have helped establish strong links to the university community, and there is a nice balance of leadership and community participation.\u00a0 The plan also has a built-in strategy for dealing with mavericks and innovator whose talents are used to further support the efforts of the university by providing input to the direction of the program, as well as, providing links to university faculty\u2014playing critical role of liaison between IT and faculty.\u00a0 Moreover, the e-learning venture may also have some commercial potential and may find open-source applications that go beyond the campus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weaknesses:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In theory, the \u201cinclusive\u201d community based e-learning strategy should be effective; however, the \u201cinclusive\u201d design has the potential to disrupt the focus of the venture by trying to meet the needs of too many.\u00a0 Moreover, there maybe times when a greater top-down strategy may be needed to make change possible.
