{"id":2792,"date":"2009-10-06T01:19:46","date_gmt":"2009-10-06T09:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec522sept09\/?p=2792"},"modified":"2009-10-06T01:20:12","modified_gmt":"2009-10-06T09:20:12","slug":"engrade-cubed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec522sept09\/2009\/10\/06\/engrade-cubed\/","title":{"rendered":"Engrade Cubed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was recently introduced to Engrade, as some of the colleagues I\u2019m teaching with are using it with a lot of success.\u00a0 It is easy to use and very intuitive.\u00a0 The company, Engrade, is based in San Diego, California, and was founded in 2003 by a team of Internet entrepreneurs.\u00a0 Engrade is used all over the world today.\u00a0 Engrade is free and claims to remain free of charge for educators.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Face 1: Market Focus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Engrade seems to be focused for school systems from K-12; or for any company that need to keep track of student records, such as tutoring services, summer camps\/courses, or educational services that do not have a required grading system.\u00a0 Engrade provides services to principals, teachers, parents, and students \u2013 all at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Face 2: Types of Offerings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Engrade provides services to principals, teachers, parents, and students.\u00a0 Some of these services include updated information of students\u2019 class marks, attendance, work habits, and scheduled tests and exams.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For <strong>teachers<\/strong>, they are able to input grades of student assignments online.\u00a0 This can be done anywhere with an Internet access (and the password to sign-in).\u00a0 It is a paperless gradebook.\u00a0 The teacher can manage several classes, multiple students, and customized weighting and grading systems as well.\u00a0 In addition, they are able to communicate privately among colleagues.<\/li>\n<li>For <strong>principals<\/strong>, they are able to send messages to teachers at once or individually.<\/li>\n<li>For <strong>parents<\/strong> and <strong>students<\/strong>, to check their grades and their information, class marks, missing assignments, work habits, customized feedback from the teacher, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Infrastructure <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Engrade also provides some infrastructure in that it manages student and content.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Face 3: Who is the Buyer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As this service is absolutely free, there is no \u201cbuyer\u201d per se, but there are users.\u00a0 The people who will be logging in to this service are students, parents, teachers, and principals.\u00a0 So, the buyer would be people related to the K-12 system (or as mentioned earlier, an academic environment \u00a0\u2013 ex: tutoring company).<\/p>\n<p>There is nothing to download;
