Peekabu\u2019s pitch for a \u201cnew way for people to interact with their computers without ever touching a mouse or keyboard\u201d sparked my interest.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"watch-headline-title\" style=\"text-align: center\">Peekabu 60 Second Pitch<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XQSWm1-5ffk&#038;feature=related\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XQSWm1-5ffk&#038;feature=related<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">[youtube=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XQSWm1-5ffk&amp;feature=related]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Presenter Alex Cole hooks the audience by creating need at the start.\u00a0 He asks, \u00a0\u201cwhat if you could\u2026\u201d listing a wide-range of applications manipulated through a computer with \u201ceasy to learn\u201d gestures.\u00a0 He is smooth and polished, backed by an image of and association with the University of Edinburgh.\u00a0 One wonders, however, about his American accent, and his young and vital look. Would this pitch have been more effective using someone with a need for hands-free computing, such as a disabled athlete, or a harried businessperson to move this idea beyond the market already served by the Nintendo Wii?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec522sept11\/files\/2011\/09\/Peekabu-display.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5377 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec522sept11\/files\/2011\/09\/Peekabu-display-287x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec522sept11\/files\/2011\/09\/Peekabu-display-287x300.png 287w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec522sept11\/files\/2011\/09\/Peekabu-display.png 625w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">This technology promises interactive online media, games, displays, and even control of lighting with just a web camera and computer. However, on closer inspection it appears to only exist as an Application Programming Interface (API) that is dependent on adoption by software developers in order to create a product.
