Welcome to Nicole and Joel’s Movable Feast week- \u201cSiri and her AI Offspring.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ve decided to update our topic title slightly, shifting from Siri and her \u201csiblings\u201d to a new generation of AI. The rapid advancements in this area required incorporating Apple’s major update regarding AI and Siri just last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Large Language Models (LLMs) have created a new category of text-based chat-enabled AI, we focus this OER on the emerging category of Conversational Agents<\/strong> using LLMs that leverage natural language processing (NLP) for conversational voice interaction (such as ChatGPT voice). This category is rapidly expanding beyond just voice and is starting to include true multimodality, with these new agents gaining the ability to see as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This evolving field uses various terminology to describe the landscape of tools and software. In our OER, we\u2019ve tried to stick with the following terms: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conversation Agents<\/strong>: ChatGPT 4o  Voice \/ Pi Ai – Artificial Intelligence powered by LLMs and NLP<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chat-enabled AI:<\/strong> ChatGPT, Copilot (text-based)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virtual Assistants<\/strong>: Siri, Alexa, Google Home<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve included reflection points throughout the OER, so please return to this discussion post to share your thoughts on a few of these topics.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Reflection Activity:  Try starting a voice chat with a virtual assistant like  Siri \/ Alexa or a conversational agent like Pi \/ ChatGPT voice. Did anything frustrate you about the experience?  Was there anything remarkable you noted? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Reflection Activity: What challenges do you foresee in utilizing conversational agents in your classroom or workplace? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Reflection Activity:  Do you have any personal prompting tricks or tips to share? Do you know if your prompting strategies change when you engage with conversational agents versus text-based chats? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Reflection Activity: Ethics,  Problems, Concerns – What else do you see as missing or concerning? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
