{"id":2151,"date":"2020-06-01T23:01:26","date_gmt":"2020-06-02T06:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec523\/?p=2151"},"modified":"2020-06-01T23:01:27","modified_gmt":"2020-06-02T06:01:27","slug":"vr-ar-the-future-of-field-trips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec523\/2020\/06\/01\/vr-ar-the-future-of-field-trips\/","title":{"rendered":"VR\/AR-The Future of Field Trips"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/virtual.educ.ubc.ca\/wp\/etec523\/author\/daniel-edwards\/\">dan edwards<\/a>&nbsp;on July 30, 2018<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual.educ.ubc.ca\/wp\/etec565m\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1512\/files\/sites\/1512\/2018\/07\/Picture-9-360x106.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49009\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hello everyone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While this is a topic that is already&nbsp;underway&nbsp;in education, I do believe that virtual field trips is one that offers huge potential.&nbsp; Accessing most physical locations for field studies is difficult for most educators and students to take part in.&nbsp; Field trips offer an immersive way for students to engage in hands-on learning activities.&nbsp; It is evident that Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) offer huge potential to increasing the ability for students to participate in field trips that most are unable to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a topic that particularly speaks to me.&nbsp; As an educator from Chilliwack, B.C., I find it difficult to experience and participate in many of the great learning experiences in and around Vancouver.&nbsp; Challenges such as&nbsp;costs, time and accessibility are just a few of the reasons why.&nbsp; However, the bigger issue is with learning about topics beyond your local area (i.e., Volcanoes, The Colosseum in Rome).&nbsp; Virtual field trips offer huge learning potential for all learners, regardless of where they live, and the possibilities are unlimited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please check out my website here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/etec565mvirtualfieldtrips.weebly.com\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks!&nbsp; Dan<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By&nbsp;dan edwards&nbsp;on July 30, 2018 Hello everyone!
