Throughout 2020 I thought about and lamented over that fact that due to COVID-19 the students in that program during 2020 were inevitably deprived of so many of the hands-on in-person labs and field trips I was privy to. Those experiences developed my field skills and open gave me physical applications for the theories I had learned in the classroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I began looking into mobile game options that could support the education of ecology students by challenging and applying their existing knowledge through game strategy. One game I found was Save Earth, an offline ecology strategy learning game. For more information visit <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.gamefirst.free.strategy.save.the.earth&amp;hl=en_US&amp;gl=pt\" target=\"_blank\">Google Play<\/a> or the Apple App Store. What particularly excited me about this game was that it could be used to supplement learning in a more versatile way than other non-mobile online lab programs, like <a href=\"https:\/\/simbio.com\/products-college\/simutext-overview\">SimuText, <\/a>can&#8217;t. A wildlife genetics course I took utilized SimuText for an online lab exploring the impacts of biological refuge size on genetic diversity in endangered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/animals\/mammals\/b\/black-footed-ferret\/\">black-footed ferret<\/a> populations, but student interaction with the game, and therefore the concept, were limited by the lab&#8217;s duration.
