Constructivist Models and Ideas

The Assignment instructions:

Prepare a topic from your area of specialization and (a) design and develop an online instructional/workshop lesson that will embody the principles embedded in CIM , POE and CCM models and other constructivist strategies of your choice for instruction; and (b) also, design and develop criteria which you would like your lesson to be judged – this is a rubric by which the extent of your lesson to embody constructivist principles will be assessed.

From the instructions, the constructivist models and ideas which need further elaboration are:

1. CIM (Constructivist Instructional Model) by Driver and Oldham.

Stages of CIM – 1. orientation, 2. elicitation 3. restructure ideas (clarify, exchange, construct and evaluate), 4. application and 5. review.

2. POE (Prediction, Oberservation, Explanation)

Used in Science teaching.

3. CCM (Conceptual Change Model)

Stages of CCM – 1. identify learners view, 2. create ‘explore’ opportunities, make predictions, 3. provide stimuli, and 4. support attempts to rethink/restructure.
