BYOD can often be seen to be too complicated for the network administrators to maintain or too expensive for the parents to provide for. In such cases, different alternatives to BYOD could be adopted based on the needs of the institution. Some of them are mentioned below.
- Choose Your Own Device – These are preapproved devices, owned by the school, used anywhere. In most cases, the school purchases, owns and maintains the device. Parents choose from an approved list in a custom online portal.

2. BYOD with limited access – Sometimes, the school might decide to adopt only certain kinds of technology for educational curriculum. For uses with only minimal BYOD needs, the network department can set a separate network with only the necessary levels of access.
