The Oak Hills Local School District (OHLSD) in western Hamilton County, Ohio, is the county\u2019s third-largest district, serving about 8,100 students in preschool through grade 12. In the planning process, the district decided to take their BYOD program one step further by building a virtual desktop system which can be accessed through any device that students or teachers bring into the school. In addition to student engagement and learning gains, the district also boasts a significant cost savings through the BYOD initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Forsyth County Schools (FCS), located north of Atlanta in Cumming, Georgia, serves about 39,000 students in grades Pre-K through 12. Its 36 schools, including a charter high school and 6-12 virtual school, constitute the largest employer in Forsyth County. Forsyth County Schools in Georgia did one thing differently: they let each school determine individual rules about how and when BYOD tools will be used. As a result, the program isn\u2019t the same for all schools, with school leaders deciding what works best for their individual goals and school culture.\u00a0The Forsyth pilot program illuminates some of the pros and the cons of BYOD programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
